Symbolism in Catcher

So far in Catcher In The Rye by J.D Salinger, I am very interested in Holden’s constant stream of thought and his frantic, manic way of storytelling. Currently I’m interested in analyzing his mental state or the symbolism used frequently throughout the book and the different meanings.
I’d like to praise Salinger’s subtle way of throwing symbols at the reader, for example; Holden’s hat, the ducks, phoebe’s entire character and backstory, the carousel and several more. It’d be interesting to analyze the symbols, what they mean and how they shaped Holden’s personality.
